Infant daycare in Seattle, WA

Infant rooms are the most staff-intensive care in any building: in a licensed Washington center, one caregiver may be responsible for at most four infants, in a group of no more than eight (some programs staff 1:3 with a group of nine). That is the strictest ratio of any age band — and the main reason infant care costs the most and fills first.

On an infant-room tour, beyond the standard ten questions, look for:

• Safe sleep, visibly practiced — babies on their backs in bare cribs, one per crib. Ask to see the nap room mid-nap.
• Primary caregiving — the same one or two adults handle your baby's feeds and diapers, and they've been on staff a while.
• Babies out of containers — held, on floor mats, doing tummy time; not parked in swings and bouncers.
• Same-day communication — feeds, naps and diapers reported daily, by app or paper.
• A realistic sick policy — clear exclusion rules beat vague reassurance in a room of pre-vaccine-age children.
